Product Description
Purpose: The Rapid Salmonella Ag Test Kit is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Avian Salmonella spp. Antigen (Salmonella Ag) in feces from bird's cloaca or ground. Eggs contaminated with Salmonella could also be detected with the auxiliary of enrichment broth.
Principle: The Rapid Salmonella Ag Test Kit is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test device has a testing window for the observation of assay running and result reading. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and a C (control) zone before running the assay. When the treated sample was applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow through the surface of the test strip and react with the pre-coated monoclonal antibodies. If there is NDV antigen in the specimen, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, which indicates a valid result. By this means, the device can accurately indicate the presence of Avian Salmonella spp. antigen in the specimen.
Specimen: feces from the cloaca
Materials provided in one box:
10 Salmonella Ag test card
10 Assay buffer (1mL/tube)
10 Cotton swab stick
10 Disposable dropper
1 user manual
Test Procedure
1. Collect bird's feces from the cloaca or ground with the cotton swab.
2. Insert the swab into the provided assay buffer tube and stir for 10 seconds. Let the test tube stand for 1 minute. If collecting the egg specimen, the specimen should be enriched in an enrichment broth and inactivated before running the assay. Refer to the National Standard Procedures or AOAC suggested method to enrich the Salmonella-suspicious specimen.
3. Take out the test device from the foil pouch and place it horizontally. Suck the treated sample extraction from the assay buffer tube (be careful not to suck out the fecal particles) and place 4 drops into the sample hole "S" of the test device. The reaction will start.
4. Interpret the result in 5-10 minutes. Result after 10 minutes is considered as invalid.
Result interpretation
1. Negative results: Within the specified reaction time, there is one and only one C line in the window area;
2. Positive results: Within the specified reaction time, two color bands (T line and C line) appear in the window area;
3. Invalid results: Within the specified reaction time, no control line (C line) appears in the window area.
Limitations of test results:
This product in an immunological diagnostic kit, only used for clinical detection of pet diseases to provide qualitative test results. If you are in doubt about the test results, please use other diagnostic methods (such as ELISA kits, B-ultra-sound, etc.) for further analysis of the tested samples. For pathological analysis, consult your local pet care provider.

Q1. How is Salmonella antigen test done?
A1. The Rapid Salmonella Ag Test Kit is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Avian Salmonella spp. Antigen (Salmonella Ag) in feces from bird's cloaca or ground. Eggs contaminated with Salmonella could also be detected with the auxiliary of enrichment broth.
Q2. How accurate is Salmonella test?
A2. When considering the combined detection of Salmonella Typhi and Enteritidis (both group D Salmonella), sensitivity and specificity were 97.9% and 98.5% respectively.
Q3. What is the fastest test for Salmonella?
A3. The Salmonella Rapid Detection Kit is a qualitative test for a broad spectrum of Salmonella serotypes found in food samples. Results can be recorded in 5-10 minutes.
Q4. Why is Salmonella detection important?
A4. To prevent consumers infected by Salmonella, the food and beverage industry has to ensure the products produced are free from Salmonella bacteria. As a consequence, the detection of Salmonella is important for food safety.
Q5. Can you test for Salmonella at home?
A5. A user drops a liquified sample of food onto a paper test strip that will give an accurate result in less than an hour. Here's what you should know about at-home Salmonella testing, and how you can prevent foodborne illness in your kitchen
